Mountain Life...

Pavhan climbed in all by himself. Getting out was the problem. Pavan jest ciekawy wszystkiego, klopoty to jego specjalnosc....

Vadzim at Meena cafe. Znajomy z pociagu Vadzim...

A massoff dog.

Indian chess champion (I reckon only Kacper could beat him!) Partyjka w szachy z lokalnym mistrzem (Kacper by go ogral)

Our new friend Kesang in his shop. Kumpel Kesang - pracuje w lokalnym warzywniaku, wpadamy tu na zakupy i herbatke...

Feeling confident? Jestes pewny siebie?

Spacery po okolicznych wsiach. Kura, kaczka, drob....

Our walk to Shura; which we never found.W poszukiwaniu wioski Siura, niestety mapy ktore sa dostepne nie pokrywaja sie z terenem. Wioski nie znalezlismy, ale spacer byl mily.

But we did find ninjas...

And bee hives; loads of them.

Nala River.

If Bear Grylls had a tractor...

The way home. Powrot do domu.

Bartosz's new shadow; Rasta. Nasz przyjaciel Rasta, jest moim cieniem.

Kesang and the fastest momo eater in town. Pierogi w pobliskim barze mlecznym mmmmmmmmm... juz zjedzone he he he

Na wyciagu w dolinie Solang.

Solang Valley cable car was great, apart from a twenty minute power cut half way up.   W Polowie drogi wagoniki stanely na dwadziescia minut, a my bujalismy sie na wietrze.

Decided to try and climb to the top. No to jeszcze troche wyzej ....

Made it!

If that's what you're into... W wesolym miasteczku, Strzelnica.

Every bus driver gets his own personal army of back seat drivers. What's happening ahead? A co tam sie stalo?
Na kazdym przewezszeniu napiecie w autobusie wzrasta....

Bartosz's new hat. Dorobili mi czapke....

Lots of Indian tourists like to have their photo taken with these guys. Somewhere out there are thousands of photos of terrified children and massive rabbits with red eyes. Indianscy turysci lubia robic sobie fotki z krolikami, i gdzies tam sa tysiace zdjec przestraszonych dzieci z wielkim, czerwonookim krolikiem.
Vashist Village. Wioska Vashist.
We've had such a good time here in Vashist and the surrounding hills, waterfalls and valleys. Have met some lovely people and seen some amazing landscapes. The weather is getting much warmer and it has only rained once this week. The walking is great but the maps are very rarely right, looks like we'll have to take a guide if we take a longer trek. There's a rumour that the road to Leh is now open but no one seems to be a hundred percent sure. We've decided to wait until the beginning of June to set off North anyway as the road will be much safer after another couple of weeks of sunshine. We will let you know when we do set off as we will be out of touch for a while I think. Still have plans to visit Dharmshala and Shimla on our way out of Himachal Pradesh. We are both well and happy and looking after each other.
Happy holidays to all those of you who teach. Well done Kacper on your chess tournament; you are super clever. Well done Marthie for finishing University and good luck with all your productions :) Thank you Kate for all the trekking, festival and Ladakh advice; you're making us very excited! Thanks mum for sorting out my student loan stuff and I'm glad they who should not be named haven't visited yet; although I hope they come before the summer hols. Massive love, hugs and kisses to all our families and friends. Hope you are all well and happy and we miss you all.

  3. Hi Sweethearts, its me…dad…I’ve got a gmail account but obviously I’ve forgotten all the password details and everything else so Kates let me use hers. It looks fantastic where you are at the moment…coincidentally today I was reading, yes you read that right, I was reading a very important literary work entitled “The John Lennon letters” and I’m on the bit when he was in India…. he’s written all these letters home from Rishikesh where he and the rest of the Beatles ,including that nowter Mcartney, spent a couple of months with the maharishi meditating and writing virtually the entire white album and a lot of the Abbey Rd album…but Kate says you won’t be anywhere near there…so maybe I’ll make the pilgrimage one day instead…I’m definitely significantly more interested in visiting India largely thanks to you …Its just so wonderful to see your great big shiny happy faces discovering and enjoying so much…..so much to share with your own children and the hundreds you will teach in the future Zoz…all is well here in Valor,,,, Ben and Phoebe say hi….We all love the hamster story and it will feature in my very next presentation…you know I always mention at least one story about your days at Globe…I haven’t forgotten, I’ll call in for the card asap. Love you millions …. Keep safe, happy, and look after each other. Xxxxxx your very proud dad

Tashi delek from Kate! How wonderful is the rabbit phenomenon! I love it and as for Pavhan-on-a-shelf I have the self same picture of Luke - taken by his astonished mother upon finding him there.. .... Proving, if proof were needed, that children across the world know how to prioritise........if you see an adventure/challenge/shelf, get to it. Think a trek guide is a good idea, I think they use pack ponies – what larks! Animals and children are great glue with which to make new relationships – and you are also demonstrating that the same is true of board games (and football??). We are here now in Spain for a whole week. It’s been sunny but the weather has been weird here as well as in UK. There is a little fiesta at a local village on Saturday where Peter and Suzanne live (they of the shop and the 300 year old tables) so I’m looking forward to that. Thank you again for wonderful pictures. You both look so very well and happy. XKateX

  4. Hi sweeties.. Love, just love, the picture of the baby in the TV cabinet and the unconcerned mother who obviously wants him to figure out how to get out himself...would that more parents here were the same...The place you are staying and the nearby village look so restful and idyllic and you both look so at home and at ease with the local people..wonderful to see. The back seat driver syndrome made me giggle especially when you see the state of the road. They are so obviously used to vehicle shenanigans that hey stay well awake on bus journeys, a strong belief in the power of collective mental concentration to keep the bus on the road and away from other vehicles. But my favourite picture is the dog..the very large dog...I want one... He looks absolutely adorable. Glad you are waiting a tad longer before you set off and that you are going to have a guide rather than rely on the maps..you could be lost for months....carry on living loving and laughing and enjoy those hot springs whilst you can. I think the way ahead will be more rustic and even more adventurous and amazing so enjoy having your back scrubbed whilst you may. Love you love you love you love you the mostxxxxxxxxxxxx

  7. Hi travellers..I have got confirmation back from Students Loans who say 'Further to your submission of an overseas Income assessment form we can now advise you that you will not be expected to make any Income Contingent repayments from 1 may 2013 to 10 April 2014, or until you return to the Uk, whichever is earlier. Then blah about making voluntary contributions....Are they mad?
Finally they will contact you eight weeks before your next annual reassessment to reassess your payments for the following year. In bold...You must retain all evidence of your income for us to do so. So it seems they took my letter and signature after all.
Hope you are both very, very well and enjoying the civilised side of the mountains before you take off into the wilds. Gardening and painting boats red....off to 60th garden party this afternoon...walking these here hills tomorrow...weather actually fine but not that warm...... Love you both the most......... xxxxxxxxx Love from Oli xxxx

  9. Hi sweethearts , cant wait to hear about your incredible journey to Leh. I hope you're still wearing your bike helmets as you promised. I want to see lots of photographic evidence. I know you know I always mention you and your wonderful stories about school every time I do a presentation...I was talking about suspension of disbelief at an early years' conference the other day and they just loved the story about the hamster...in fact I saw quite a number of them writing it down for future reference, could be a nice little earner for you setting up a hamster marriage parlour in Ireland. Had a nice week with B and Z over half term. they're both well..the children's book is progressing really well and the house is looking good. Kate and I are both well...tomorrow we go and see Martha's Comedy of Errors at the New Theatre. She has been unbelievably busy as you know. Workwise the revised edition of my first book is out in two weeks. None of this will compare with your news my love, I know we may be waiting for a while because youre on the journey of your lives into the unknown...but it will be as wonderful as it always is, reading your account...love you millions big hug for B xxx Daddy

  10. LEH AT LAST! How wonderful. Lovely lovely place. I hope you will tell us where you end up trekking so I can look it up in my book. Are the flowers out? And a festival to look forward to - brilliant timing on your part. I can't wait to hear about it. Here, it was summer on Monday and Tuesday but not s much today. I've been working to beat the garden into submission and enjoying myself doing it. It's always fun to read about & see what you've been up to. Much love X

  11. Hey you made it to Leh!!!!! Sorry could not resist...sounded like an awesome adventure...bridges and buses...and sounds from what you and Kate both say that the festival will be wonderful too...have just been talking to Nanna who loved your telephone call and is so excited that one of us is going to make it to Shimla..where her family spent their summers escaping the heat...she is seriously considering a return to Darjeling another of her favourite India places...sun still out here big time...cannot really believe it....We went to see Comedy of Errors which was superb, cleverly cleverly done and so funny...bit bizarre seeing one of the the Early Years boxes on stage but brilliant...took Sarah who was bowled over by it too....anyhow will await directions re banking and whilst you festival and carousel in the far north of India I will produce yet another set of data to prove progress...cut the grass with Brin who is on one of his sleepovers and read my book for book club Just finished A thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet which was Sandys choice and the best book I have read so far this year. Keep happy and safe love you both the MOOOOOOOSSSSSTTTT xxxxx
