Vientiane

Vientiane was a slow paced and beautiful city; extremely quiet for a capital. The French colonial era left behind croissants and good coffee (as well as a lot of other stuff). Vientiane bardzo spowolnione miasto, niesamowicie wyciszone jak na stolice.

The National History Museum.

Exhibition on the Secret War.

A display cabinet full of confiscated drugs.

The Victory Monument, AKA The Vertical Runway. America donated concrete to Laos to build an airstrip but instead they built a monument commemorating all the people killed during the war. Victory Monument- ku pamieci ludzi zamordowanych w latach wojennych, zbudowany za pieniadze darowane przez USA na zbudowanie pasa startowego.

Views from the top.

Outdoor gym by the river. Park rekreacji nad rzeka.

King Chao Anouvong.

The Presidential Palace.

Most of the shops are built onto the front of peoples' houses, which makes shopping very interesting, but you feel pretty bad when they have to stop watching tv to serve you. Duzo sklepow znajduje sie w mieszkaniach. Czasem bylo glupio prosic o obslugie, podczas gdy cala rodzinka ogladala seriala.

The domino king.

We absolutely love Laos; it's a really peaceful and relaxing country. The favourite sport is boules and the local bars all have sandpits outside where the men play boules and drink and giggle (and gamble) all night long. The people are amazingly warm and friendly and although they try to charge you lots of money for everything you can't help but forgive them. We never felt 'scammed'; partly due to having just learnt about their  turbulent history and its legacy but mainly because they are so honest and funny about haggling. We're in Cambodia now and are heading to the beach to get some of that cool sea air. Lots of love to everyone back home and thank you for all your comments, they are so lovely to read xxxx.

Buziaki i uściski Bardzo Was kochamy! Ania

  3. Hi you two, just had a good half hour catching up with the last two blogs. I watched the video on 'bombies',those poor people still living in fear and will do for years to come, don't we take our 'easy life' for granted.
On a lighter note, your pictures are as interesting and colourful as ever, l do really love the Buddha ones.
Keep on taking care and enjoying life to the full.
    Lots of love, Lesley xxxxxx

  4. Dear You Two. I've been enthralled by all you have seen and done in this time. I'm really interested to hear about Laos and for you to tell us about more contemporary history that I feel I should know more about than I do. I'll certainly watch the vid link. Thank you. My favourite picture this time is of the elegant butterfly using the ATM. Well, that's what I thought. It's a brilliant picture. Enjoy Cambodia, the beach and honing your domino skills. I feel I won't stand a chance in future tournaments. Love from Kate. X

  6. Hi special people..what can I say...what a trip..Laos looks like another place I would like to visit..Martha and Sam are going to have an amazing time....very envious...I loved the photos and of course Nas always bugs foods bikes and temples..to say nothing of games AND tuk tuks. Temple visits always look so peaceful and tranquil..you always look to be the only ones there...staggering that so few people go to visit these places!!! Stay safe and keep laughing and loving...snuggled up with Martha on the settee watching Hot Fuzz in which an inordinate number of people are being stabbed, decapitated and shot!!! Love you both the most...hasta luego chicos....XXXX
